21 SOMALI AVIATION TRAINEES BEGIN AERODROME COURSE AT CATC TANZANIA

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – October 13, 2025:

Twenty-one aviation trainees from the Federal Republic of Somalia have officially begun their specialized Aerodrome Course at the Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC), operating under the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA). This comprehensive training program is scheduled to run from 13th October 2025 to 30th January 2026. Following its completion, the trainees will immediately proceed to the Area Control Procedural Course, which is set to take place from 2nd February to 3rd April 2026.


The official opening ceremony was held at the TCAA Headquarters and officiated by Mr. Salim Msangi, the Director General of TCAA who served as the Chief Guest. The event was also graced by the Somali Ambassador to Tanzania Hon. Ilyas Ali Hassan, the Principal of CATC Mr. Aristid Kanje, alongside members of the TCAA Management and CATC instructors.


In his keynote address, DG Salim Msangi expressed his sincere appreciation to the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) for their continued trust and collaboration with Tanzania particularly in the field of aviation training and capacity building.


DG Msangi emphasized the significance of the partnership stating “We are honoured by the confidence shown by the Somali Government and its Civil Aviation Authority in choosing Tanzania and CATC to develop their aviation personnel. This cooperation reflects the strong ties between our two nations and our shared vision for advancing aviation safety and professionalism in the region.”


Following this, Mr. Aristid Kanje, Principal of CATC reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to delivering high-quality training that adheres to international standards. He assured the delegation that the course would equip the Somali trainees with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for effective provision of aerodrome control and Area Control Procedural services. 


Speaking on behalf of the Somali delegation, the Somali Ambassador to Tanzania thanked TCAA and CATC for their warm reception and support, highlighting that the program symbolizes a growing partnership between the two nations in the aviation sector and human resource development.


This course the Ambassador noted marks another milestone in regional aviation cooperation under the East African and Horn of Africa development initiatives which aim to strengthen the capacity and efficiency of Civil Aviation Authorities across the continent.
