Dar es Salaam, March 21, 2025 – The Director General of the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA), Mr. Salim Msangi, has officially closed the Aviation System Block Upgrade (ASBU) Workshop, which brought together 72 participants from various African countries. The five-day workshop, held from March 17 to March 21, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, focused on enhancing strategies to improve aviation safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability through modern technology and international best practices.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Msangi emphasized that the workshop had provided a crucial platform for participants to discuss challenges facing the aviation sector in Africa and develop practical solutions.
“In this workshop, participants have shared insights on challenges affecting their respective countries and aviation institutions, particularly regarding air traffic management systems. These discussions are essential because no country should be left alone in addressing aviation challenges—collaboration is key to ensuring safer and more efficient airspace,” said Mr. Msangi.
He further highlighted that participants had committed to working together to implement ASBU strategies and enhance airspace efficiency across Africa.
“As the Director General of TCAA, I am confident that through collaboration with our counterparts across Africa, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA), we will continue to improve aviation safety and ensure a harmonized airspace for the benefit of all,” he added.
On his part, workshop participant Mr. Ruben Kyema from Kenya praised the workshop’s impact, stating that the discussions had been highly beneficial in tackling challenges and shaping the future of aviation in Africa.
The ASBU Workshop is part of global and regional efforts to modernize air traffic management, strengthen aviation safety, and align Africa’s aviation sector with international standards.
