TCAA URGED TO FAST-TRACK NEW FACILITIES FOR CIVIL AVIATION TRAINING CENTRE

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – March 18, 2025 – The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has been directed by the Parliamentary Committee for Infrastructure to expedite the construction of new facilities for the Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC). While the CATC will continue to operate from its current location, new state-of-the-art buildings are planned to replace the existing structure, which has been described as inadequate for the demands of modern aviation training.

During a recent assessment visit, Committee Chairperson Mr. Selemani Kakoso highlighted the urgent need for improved facilities. “During our previous visit, we observed that the current building does not provide a conducive learning environment, especially for international students. It is essential that TCAA completes the new construction promptly to uphold CATC’s reputation and standards,” Mr. Kakoso said.

The project, valued at TZS 78 billion, is set to commence construction in June 2025. TCAA Director General Mr. Salim Msangi acknowledged earlier delays due to necessary procedural approvals. “We announced a tender for pre-qualification analysis in January, shortlisting three out of six applicants. In early March, these companies were invited to submit their bids, which will be opened on March 24. We anticipate signing a contract with the selected contractor in early May, with construction set to begin in June following initial payments,” he explained.

The construction of the new facilities is expected to significantly enhance training capacity by providing modern, well-equipped classrooms and practical training spaces. This move not only aims to improve the overall quality of education for current and future aviation professionals but also positions CATC as a leading institution in the region, attracting a broader pool of local and international students.

By investing in these upgrades, TCAA is taking a critical step toward strengthening East and Central Africa’s aviation sector, ensuring that the training centre can meet the evolving needs of the industry while contributing to a more robust and competitive air transportation system.
