TCAA DG URGES RESPONSIBLE USE OF DRONES TO PROTECT TANZANIA’S AIRSPACE

The Director General of the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA), Salim Msangi, has called on drone users across the country to use the technology responsibly and in line with the law, warning that misuse could put lives and national security at risk.

Speaking to journalists in Arusha December 16, 2025, Msangi said drones have become an important tool in Tanzania and in the world at large over the past two decades, helping communities and businesses in areas such as agriculture, tourism, construction and research. While welcoming these benefits, he stressed that drones must be used carefully and within the law.

“Our airspace belongs to all of us. It is a national asset that must be protected,” Msangi said, adding that TCAA’s role is to ensure everyone using the airspace does so safely.

He reminded drone owners and operators that registration, training and official approval from TCAA are not optional. “Whether you are an individual, a company or an institution, you must register your drone, receive proper training and obtain permission before flying,” he said.

Msangi also assured tourists and foreign visitors that they are allowed to use drones while in Tanzania, as long as they follow the required procedures. He encouraged them to seek guidance through the TCAA website www.tcaa.go.tz or via the Authority’s social media platforms under @officialtcaa.

The TCAA Director General noted that the Authority continues to educate the public through the media, social platforms, workshops and forums to ensure people understand both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with drone technology.

DG TCAA concluded with a firm reminder that ignoring drone regulations is against the law and warned that legal action will be taken against those who operate drones illegally.
