|UPPER AIRSPACE SEAMLESS OPERATIONS PLATFORM (SYSTEM) SOON TO BE COMMUNAL IN THE EAC REGION|
The East African Community (EAC) aviation fraternity in the zeal to enhance cooperation which aims to attain mutual benefits of partner states, soon to agree on the establishment of a Unified Upper Area Control system through seamless operational management.
This has been unveiled during the 16th Heads of Civil Aviation and Airport Authorities Meeting held in Zanzibar from 7-11, June 2021 and attended by delegates from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan. While Burundi attended virtually, where all members showed their desire to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishment, operationalization and management of EAC seamless Upper Air Space.
However, the signing of MoU is set to be on the fourth coming 17th Sectoral Council on Transport, Communications and Meteorology (TCM) meeting to be held in Dar Es Salaam between 21-25 of June 2021.
Initial the Upper Air Space project commenced with some activities taking place within EAC Partner States as a part of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBU) and AFI Planning and Implementation Regional Group (APIRG) recommendations implementation.
Later the EAC Project Coordination Working Group (CWG) together with resource persons of Communications, Navigation and Surveillance Systems (CNS), Air traffic management (ATM) and Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) developed systems integration specifications blue print to be used by Partner states to facilitate system interoperability that will lead to seamless operations.
