AVIATION INDUSTRY TO EMBRACE THE GLOBAL TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE

The Director General of TCAA, Mr. Hamza S. Johari said “Our profession is in transition from Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) to Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) and this is highly triggered by the current global change of technology so we also need to update ourselves by equipping with latest technology”.

Mr. Hamza S. Johari said that during the official opening of 23rd Tanzania Aeronautical Management Officers’ Association (TAISOA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Hotel Blue Sapphire on 05th February, 2021 in Dar es Salaam.

DG Johari expressed that; the New AIXIM System Project is very important pillar for AIM as it carries a large part of professional transformation from AIS to AIM. Air Traffic Management Systems (ATM) rely much on advanced digital data exchange and data sharing services that communicate aeronautical information.

Moreover, DG Johari said “We need this project to be successful like what we did to Radar Project and we have decided that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Cooperation Bureau (ICAO TCB) to provide the consultancy service to that project”.

DG Johari elaborated that, “it is true that we need a Smart Aviation Industry so as to reach where we want; you as professionals of the industry have a greater role to play in embracing technology since it streamlines our operations and help in the smooth running of our daily activities as well as simplifies provision of quality assured services to our Stakeholders”.

Speaking of achievements of Air Traffic Management in Tanzania, DG Johari insisted that, “We want aircraft to take off and land in a safe way. We are glad that there has been no aircraft collision in Tanzania Airspace”.

Speaking during the meeting, TAISOA Chairman Mr. Omari Shabani applauded the Director General of Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) on how he managed to handle the impact of COVID-19 Pandemic by balancing normal activities versus economy and keeping the work going.

Mr. Shabani told DG TCAA Hamza S. Johari who was a Chief Guest of the meeting that COVID-19 Pandemic which came in to place on 2019/2020 has affected entire Aviation Industry Globally, loss of revenue, loss of lives and altering of social procedure, but still TCAA has managed to continue providing its services and thus needs to be congratulated for that.

The 23rd TAISOA Annual General Meeting Theme is “The role of AIM in Digital-Data-Driven ATM Systems” and the meeting intended to provide AIM Staff and other Stakeholders with a platform to discuss various challenges and opportunities in the technology of collection, processing and distribution of digital data required by various systems in the Aviation Industry.
